How to Cancel MasterClass in 2026

Self-service cancellation exists on the web and is only a few clicks (Settings - Membership - Cancel Membership - Cancel Now), but you CANNOT cancel inside the iOS/Android app, so app users get bounced to a browser. If you originally subscribed through Apple, Google Play, or Amazon, MasterClass cannot cancel for you at all - you must do it in that store. Annual-only billing plus a no-refund-on-renewals rule means mistiming the cancellation by even a day can cost a full year, which is what frustrates most people.

Why this is harder than it should be

MasterClass cancellations trip people up for two specific reasons. First, the subscription is almost always billed annually - even "$5/month" plans charge the full year up front - and MasterClass refuses refunds on renewal charges. So if you forget and the plan auto-renews, you are usually locked in for another full year with no proration. Second, you literally cannot cancel inside the MasterClass app: there is no cancel button there, and you have to log in through a web browser at masterclass.com to reach Settings - Membership - Cancel Membership. Worse, if you originally signed up through the Apple App Store, Google Play, or Amazon, MasterClass support can't cancel for you at all - you have to dig into that store's subscription settings. Add a 14-day Guest Pass free trial that silently converts to a paid annual plan, and a lot of people only discover the charge after the refund window has closed.

Step-by-step

  1. 01

Open a web browser (desktop or mobile) and sign in at www.masterclass.com. Do NOT use the MasterClass app.

Watch outMasterClass cancellation cannot be completed inside the iOS or Android app - the app has no cancel button and will not let you turn off renewal. You must log in through a browser.
  2. 02

Click your profile / account menu in the top-right corner and choose Settings, then open Account Settings.

Watch outIf you subscribed through the Apple App Store, Google Play, or Amazon, your billing is controlled there and the MasterClass Settings page will NOT show a cancel option - skip to the app-store steps below.
  3. 03

Scroll to the Membership section and click Cancel Membership.

Watch outCancel Membership is in the Membership block, not under a Billing or Payment tab - some users miss it because the page also offers Upgrade/Downgrade plan options that keep you subscribed instead of cancelling.
  4. 04

On the confirmation screen, click Cancel Now to finalize.

Watch outThere can be an intermediate are-you-sure / retention screen before the final Cancel Now button - you are not cancelled until you click Cancel Now and the page confirms it.
  5. 05

Watch for the confirmation email from MasterClass. If you do not receive one, your cancellation may not have gone through - re-check Account Settings, which should now show the membership ending on your renewal date.

Watch outCancelling does NOT refund you or end access immediately - access continues until your current annual (or monthly-billed-as-annual) period ends, and no renewal refunds are given after that.
  6. 06

If you subscribed via the Apple App Store: on your iPhone/iPad go to Settings - tap your name - Subscriptions - MasterClass - Cancel Subscription. Via Google Play: open the Play Store app - profile icon - Payments & subscriptions - Subscriptions - MasterClass - Cancel. Via Amazon: go to Your Memberships and Subscriptions on Amazon and cancel auto-renewal there.

Watch outThese store cancellations are the ONLY way to stop billing for app-store purchases. MasterClass support cannot cancel or refund a subscription bought through Apple, Google, or Amazon.
  7. 07

If you are within 30 days of your FIRST purchase and want money back, log in and start a chat with Support, or email support@masterclass.com from your account email, and request a refund under the 30-Day Satisfaction Guarantee.

Watch outThe guarantee only covers first-time purchases made directly on masterclass.com. Renewal charges, redeemed gifts, and third-party-marketplace purchases are excluded. Cancelling does not auto-refund - you must separately request the refund.

Refund policy

30-Day Satisfaction Guarantee: full refund within the first 30 days, but ONLY on a first-time membership purchased directly on masterclass.com. Renewal charges, redeemed gifts, and third-party-marketplace (Apple/Google/Amazon) purchases are not eligible. No proration for unused months. Approved refunds process in about 5-10 business days. Request via in-account chat or support@masterclass.com.

Free trial trap

14-day Guest Pass free trial auto-converts to a paid (typically annual) subscription if not cancelled before it ends. Cancellation must be done via a web browser, not the app.

What to do if they refuse to cancel

If MasterClass refuses to cancel or refund: First, determine WHO actually bills you. Check your card or PayPal statement - if the charge reads "Apple," "Google," or "Amazon," MasterClass has no power over it and you must cancel/refund through that store (Apple and Google both have their own refund request forms). For a direct masterclass.com charge, email support@masterclass.com from your account email and reference the 30-Day Satisfaction Guarantee in writing; keep the thread. If they still refuse a charge you believe was unauthorized or that violated the advertised refund terms, dispute it with your bank or card issuer as a billing dispute / chargeback, attaching your cancellation confirmation email and the help-center refund policy. You can also report deceptive auto-renewal or refund practices to the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov. If you live in California, New York, or Vermont - states with strong automatic-renewal laws - file a complaint with your State Attorney General (California's auto-renewal law requires an easy online cancel path and clear renewal disclosures). MasterClass is headquartered in San Francisco, so California's auto-renewal statute is especially relevant.

Reader questions

Frequently asked questions

Will I get a refund for the rest of my year if I cancel mid-subscription?
No. MasterClass does not prorate. Cancelling stops the next renewal but you keep access until your current annual period ends, and there is no partial refund for unused months. The only refund route is the 30-Day Satisfaction Guarantee, which applies only to your first-ever purchase made directly on masterclass.com within 30 days - renewal charges are explicitly non-refundable.
I subscribed through the Apple App Store / Google Play / Amazon - why can't I cancel on the MasterClass website?
Because those stores handle the billing, not MasterClass. Per MasterClass's own Terms (Section 3.3), it cannot process cancellations or refunds for subscriptions bought through a third-party marketplace. You must cancel in that store: iPhone Settings - your name - Subscriptions; Google Play - Payments & subscriptions; or Amazon - Your Memberships and Subscriptions. For refunds, you also request through Apple, Google, or Amazon, not MasterClass.
I started the 14-day free Guest Pass trial - will it charge me automatically?
Yes. If you do not cancel before the 14-day trial ends, MasterClass automatically starts your paid subscription and charges you (typically a full annual plan). Cancel from your account Settings before the trial ends to avoid the charge - and remember you cannot do this in the app, only via a web browser.
