Why contrast matters

Web accessibility (a11y) starts with readability. Thousands of users with visual impairments, color blindness, or situational limitations (like glare on a phone) rely on high contrast to navigate the web.

WCAG AA requires a ratio of at least 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text. WCAG AAA (the gold standard) requires 7:1 for normal text and 4.5:1 for large text.
